From Sunday, September 5, 2010:
I’m officially on maternity leave. It’s my third day, but so far it just feels like a weekend, maybe because it is. I’m 37 weeks plus a few days, with all the usual aches – back, hips, sleep, mood – especially first thing in the morning. So, to work out the kinks, I’m intending to take walks first thing in the morning. So far, so good. Yesterday I walked up to Macarthur Blvd and back down 38th Ave from our house, which gave me the opportunity to check out the little Laurel shopping district (and Lucky Donuts, which isn’t nearly as good as Dick’s Donuts).
Today, I went to Leona Heights Park. It’s an Oakland city park, and unfortunately, the budget woes are showing there. Good things: lovely creek that’s still running in September. decent second growth redwood trees mixed with oak and bay. Bad things: not supposed to touch the water or rocks due to sulphur mining that went on in the area a while back. Trail is falling into the creek. Turf wars between blackberry and ivy. No parking. No interpretation.
It was still nice to get outside, and my back does feel better.
